Explore the craft of writing fiction, particularly if you have already completed Introduction to Writing Fiction (ENGLISH X464) or the equivalent. Lectures and in-class exercises focus on the short story; however, if you are primarily interested in working on a novel, you can still benefit greatly. Examine the intricacies of plotting, narrative voice and personal style. Class sessions include instructor-led critiques of your work and focus on improving your ability to edit and revise your stories. Enrollment is limited to 18.

Starting on February 7, 2016, Thaïs will teach a 10-week Intermediate Fiction Writing course.  This course will be live and in-person at UC Berkeley Extension’s Downtown San Francisco Campus.

Founded in 1891, UC Berkeley Extension is the continuing education branch of the University of California, Berkeley. Today, Extension offers more than 2,000 courses each year, including online courses, along with more than 75 professional certificates and specialized programs of study.

Required reading materials include The Vintage Book of Contemporary American Short Stories edited by Tobias Wolff.

Course fee: $595.00
